K3 Chinese Culture Event
Understanding Chinese Herbal Tea
Activity Objectives:

To deepen children's understanding of Chinese herbal tea.

Activity Overview:
The teacher will brew three kinds of tea for children to sample. Children will be asked to choose their favorite flavor. After tasting, they will discuss how the tea made them feel, which tea bag they liked best, and why.
Antique tin toys
Activity Objectives:

Activity Overview:
Children are asked to use metal soda cans to make the hull of a boat. Then, they should use rubber bands to secure wooden sticks to the left and right sides of the soda can, and finally add two short wooden sticks at the stern as engines. Lastly, children are asked to decorate the top with colored leather and other materials. After completion, children should place the tin boat into a basin of water to try sailing it. Through this activity, they will learn how people use everyday objects to create entertainment, and appreciate ancient Chinese wisdom and art.
Chinese Rockets
Activity Objectives:

Activity Overview:
The teacher will introduce the steps for making rockets to the children. Children will stick rocket fins onto paper cups. They will then paint colors and draw patterns on the rockets in their favorite way. Afterwards, children can share their finished products with each other and try to launch the rockets through experiments. This activity aims to strengthen children's understanding and interest in Chinese aerospace.
Movable Type Printing of Tang Poems

Activity Overview:
Children will first use the method of movable type printing to try printing content on paper. After mastering the technique, they will print Tang poems on their pre-drawn picture cards.
They will also add their children's names and imitation seals next to them. Finally, the teacher will invite the children to recite the poems together and share with each other. Through the activity, children's understanding and interest in Chinese classical poetry will be enhanced, allowing them to understand the artistic conception and feelings the poets wanted to express, and to appreciate the characteristics of traditional Chinese culture and the achievements of the Chinese people.
Chinese Ancient Architecture

Activity Overview:
Children will work in small groups to discuss and plan the construction of an ancient Chinese building. They will select materials based on the architectural features of the building they choose to create. After completing their models, the children will present their work in groups and explain the structure of the ancient Chinese architecture they represented. Finally, the teacher will ask the children to pair up and share their experiences and thoughts about the activity.
Ancient Chinese Clothing

Activity Overview:
The teacher will show children pictures of different ancient Chinese costumes, asking them to pay attention to the patterns and styles on the garments. Finally, the teacher will ask the children to pair up and share their preferences between ancient and modern clothing and the reasons for their preferences, as well as their thoughts about the activity.
New Year Hanging Painting Activity

Activity Overview:
The teacher will play a slideshow titled "Different New Year Flowers" for the children to enjoy, which includes content on daffodils, kumquats, peach blossoms, and orchids, showing their colors and forms. The children will then choose the New Year flower they would like to paint and proceed in small groups. The teacher will demonstrate the method and techniques of painting New Year flowers using rice paper and paints. After completing the paintings, they will display their work and share what they appreciate and find most unique about it.
K2 Chinese Culture Event
Ancient Utensils - Gourd Ladles
Activity Objectives:
To learn about ancient containers/utensils.
To learn to appreciate Chinese wisdom.
Activity Introduction:
The teacher will display a real "gourd" to help children understand its features and uses, and introduce to them that ancient ladles were typically made from gourds. Then, an "Eye-Hand Coordination Game" will be played with the children: Each child will have a tray with a piece of paper on it (to observe if water spills) and a wide-mouthed bottle. Children will use gourds and ladles of different sizes to scoop water and pour it into the bottle.
Phase One: The goal is not to spill water onto the paper.
Phase Two: The goal is to pour water as quickly as possible without spilling it.
Phase Three: The goal is to pour water into a narrow-mouthed bottle as quickly as possible without spilling it.
Ancient Pitch-Pot and Cuju
Activity Objectives:
To understand the origins and methods of ancient sports (pitch-pot, Cuju).
To experience the fun of playing pitch-pot and Cuju.
Activity Introduction:
The teacher will use short videos to introduce children to ancient Chinese sports, explaining their rules and how to play. Then, the teacher will lead children in pitch-pot and Cuju activities, allowing them to experience the joy of ancient sports.
Shadow Puppetry
Activity Objectives:
To listen attentively to the story of "Chang'e Flying to the Moon."
To allow children to experience the joy of shadow puppetry.
Activity Introduction:
The teacher and children will read the story of "Chang'e Flying to the Moon." Then, children will be invited to choose their favorite characters from the story, color them, and make them into shadow puppets. After completion, they will perform the shadow puppet story of "Chang'e Flying to the Moon."
Coin Rubbing Art
Activity Objectives:
To allow children to unleash their creativity.
To appreciate the various forms of ancient Chinese coins.
Activity Overview:
The teacher will introduce to children that China was the earliest country in the world to use coinage, displaying pictures of coins from different dynasties. Then, the teacher will invite children to make coin rubbings using thin crayons. Children will freely create coin art on drawing paper. After completing their artworks, children will share their creations and the creative process.
Bubble Dragon Painting
Activity Objectives:
Be able to describe the physical characteristics of the Chinese dragon
Be able to use bubble wrap to print the pattern of the dragon's body
Activity Overview:
The teacher will use a presentation to introduce the cultural background of the dragon and its symbolic meaning in traditional festivals, and display pictures of dragons in various forms. Children will apply watercolors to bubble wrap and press it onto white paper to create the dragon's body, and use pastels to draw the dragon's head, claws, and tail. Then, they will attach the character "龍" (dragon) in different calligraphic styles; finally, the children will appreciate the collaborative artwork and share their creative process.
New Year Spring Couplets
Activity Objectives:
Experience the festive atmosphere of the Lunar New Year
Learn brush writing techniques
Activity Overview:
The teacher will first show the children pictures of Spring Couplets and briefly explain the meaning of New Year's greetings. The children will choose their favorite watercolor colors to paint on snake-shaped paper plates prepared by the teacher. Then, using a brush, the children will write auspicious phrases on the Spring Couplets paper.
Roll Call of the Twelve Zodiac Animals
Activity Objectives:
Be able to attentively listen to the stories of the twelve zodiac animals.
Be able to name the animals of the zodiac and their order.
Activity Overview:
The teacher will have children draw zodiac animal cards from a mystery bag and engage in a creative activity. After completing their creations, the teacher will attach a headband to the back of the paper plates, allowing the children to wear their zodiac animal plates as headgear and play a game.
Game: Roll Call of the Twelve Zodiac Animals
The teacher will play music, allowing the children to freely walk around the classroom wearing their zodiac headgear. When the music stops, the teacher will announce: "The Jade Emperor is calling roll, this time for the little ox." The child wearing the ox headgear must run into a hula hoop. This process repeats for each zodiac animal. After the game, the children are asked to recite the order of the twelve zodiac animals.
K1 Chinese Culture Event
Cherry Bamboo Fan
Activity Objectives:
To learn about traditional Chinese bamboo fan art culture.
To be able to draw round cherries.
Activity Overview:
The teacher will distribute blank round fans to children and ask them to point out the bamboo part. Cherries will be placed on the table, and children will be asked to mimic Qi Baishi's cherry paintings on the round fans, creating a cherry fan.
Panda Ink Wash Painting
Activity Objectives:
To appreciate Chinese ink wash painting.
To learn to respect Chinese culture.
Activity Overview:
To allow children to recognize and experience the beauty of Chinese ink wash painting, and to understand Chinese cultural art, thereby fostering interest in these cultural arts. The teacher will display ink wash painting artworks for children to admire, including the Chinese national treasure - the panda. Children will be asked to dip a brush in ink to paint the form of bamboo, and then print the shape of a panda. After completion, children can be invited to share their artworks.
Bamboo Slips
Activity Objectives:
Children can recognize Chinese culture (bamboo slips).
Children will attempt to draw on bamboo bookmark slices.
Activity Overview:
The teacher will use pictures to introduce to children that in the earliest times, people wrote on tortoise shells, animal skins, and animal bones. Later, the Chinese discovered writing on bamboo. The teacher will distribute bamboo bookmark slices to each child, asking them to touch their texture and use watercolors to print patterns on the bookmarks.
Chinese Printing - Small Kite
Activity Objectives:
To be able to state the country that invented papermaking.
To be able to state who invented papermaking.
Activity Overview:
The teacher will introduce the achievements of Chinese movable type printing to children, allowing them to observe and understand one of China's Four Great Inventions - movable type printing. Movable type characters for the poem "Ode to the Goose" will already be arranged on a printing plate. Children will be asked to apply ink onto the movable type, cover it with paper (kite paper), and rub to print. Then, they will use a sponge or brayer tool to gently and evenly press along the grain. After the paper dries, children will stick a colored swan picture on the back of the kite paper. Finally, children will experience the joy of flying kites, with the teacher leading them to fly kites on the sports field.
Understanding Chinese Territory
Activity Objectives:
Enhance children's understanding of China's territory, thereby boosting their national identity.
Enable children to locate Hong Kong on a map of China.
Activity Overview:
The teacher will introduce the lesson with the Chinese proverb story "Pulling up the seedlings to help them grow," using story illustrations and a presentation to describe the territory of the People's Republic of China. Children will then use pieces of paper to assemble the shape of China's territory, enhancing their understanding of the country's geography and fostering a sense of national identity. At the end of the activity, children will be invited to share or introduce their work and express their feelings about the activity.
Introduction to Blue and White Porcelain Bowls
Activity Objectives:
Familiarize with serving dishes, specifically blue and white porcelain bowls.
Identify the differences among bowls from various historical periods.
Appreciate the aesthetic demands and artistic value ancient people placed on serving ware decorations.
Activity Overview:
The teacher begins by introducing various bowls, helping children recognize the distinctive features of each type. Subsequently, the teacher provides stickers featuring different Chinese patterns, allowing the children to design their own bowls. Upon completion, children will present their bowls, share their experiences of the activity, and finally, participate in a bowl exhibition.
Tang Poem "Min Nong"
Activity Objectives:
Children can make hanging paintings.
Children can read the rice planting song together.
Activity Overview:
The teacher asks the children to act as little farmers, reciting the Tang poem "Min Nong" and creating movements to go along with the content. Then, they will paste the content of "Min Nong" and images of farmers onto paper, and use paintbrushes to draw the background (sun and clouds, etc.) and paste straw on the ground. Finally, the artwork will be mounted on a scroll-like backing paper to make a hanging painting. Extended activity: Plant wheatgrass together and conduct observation activities.
