July 1st Flag Raising Ceremony
Grade: Whole school
Activity Objectives:
1. Introduce children to the national flag and national anthem, cultivating a sense of national identity and citizenship from an early age.
2. Familiarize students with flag-raising etiquette.
3. Understand the flag-raising ceremony and learn to demonstrate a solemn and respectful attitude when the national anthem is played.
Activity Description: To celebrate the 26th anniversary of Hong Kong's return to the motherland, a flag-raising ceremony will be held.
Appreciation of Cantonese Opera
Year: School-wide
Activity Objectives:
1. To deepen children’s understanding of traditional Chinese opera
2. Cultivate children’s interest in Cantonese opera
Activity Description: Cantonese opera songs will be played for children to enjoy. Children can also try to wear long sleeves and make different hand gestures according to the plays.
Enchanting Shadow Puppetry
Year: School-wide
Activity Objectives:
1. Children can learn about Chinese folk drama - shadow puppetry
2. Ability to use figures made of plastic plates to create shadow puppetry
3. Enjoy shadow puppetry with your friends
Activity Description: Use teaching videos to let children have a preliminary understanding of Chinese shadow play - shadow play. Teachers and children use transparent film to draw the storyline to perform shadow play activities and experience the fun of performing shadow play.
Paper Cutting Art Workshop
Year: School-wide
Activity Objectives:
1. Let children know that paper cutting is one of the Chinese folk arts
2. Cultivate children’s love for folk paper-cutting art
Activity Description: Children first try to cut out simple shapes, then some symmetrical patterns and even words, with the skills progressing from simple to advanced.
Let's Participate in Lion Dance.
Year: School-wide
Activity Objectives:
1. Learn about the Chinese traditional festival activity "Lion Dance"
2. Try playing Chinese musical instruments such as the cymbals, drums, and gongs
Activity Description: The teacher plays a short video of lion dance for the children to watch, and displays the lion head and demonstrates how to dance, so that the children can try lion dance and drumming themselves.
Chinese Ink Painting
Year: School-wide
Activity Objectives:
1. Let children have a preliminary understanding of the characteristics of ink painting and experience the Chinese ink culture
2. Let children have their first taste of ink and brushes, experience the fun, and understand the painting tools and brush usage techniques
Activity Description: The teacher gave each child a piece of rice paper and allowed the child to freely choose the painting content and create Chinese ink painting under the guidance of the teacher.
